Gig Review: Adverse Camber 3rd Birthday Party, Electrowrokz, London, 03.12.04

The Adverse Camber crew celebrated their third birthday in style last Friday at Electroworkz. As I scraped the ice from the car on Friday morning I was starting to doubt the sense in my decision to sleep in the car after this when driving back to Bristol from London. It turned out the night was defiantly worth it, and the whether only throw a think fog rather than freezing temperatures at me.

The gig featured great sets throughout. Con Brio kicked off the live sets, starting with a few tracks of nice pads and highly disjointed beats and bips, progressively getting more danceable as the set went on, ending on a really nice breakcore tip. Kutchi worked up from quite a down tempo atmospheric start, up through some great ant.zen style breakcore madness, and finished with the kicking gabba of DJ Spazmo’s My Sharona. Cursor Miner provided an ass shaking bass spectacular, occasionally supported by his own vocals in a Jack Dangers rap stylee, and always keeping the crowd moving. Exile was next up, wearing what was quite possibly the most hideous item of clothing ever created, and playing jump-up jungle with an IDM twist. The little vocal snippets he looped and messed about with (granularly?) where great. I bit of comedy happy-hardcore made its way in towards the end before returning to the jungle material to finish. Mike Paradinas DJed a mostly jungle set with some more experimental material towards the end, although I think I feel asleep for 10 or 20 minutes in the middle so anything could have happened then. Funnily enough Mike also looks like he’s asleep in the picture I took, not that the set sounded like he was. The last live set I caught was Chevron, mostly playing material from his forth coming album. Unfortunately I had to leave at this point so didn’t see BOEP and The Sweez or Shitmat. Some photos follow.
